Time To Go

Promises feel like lies again.
Hello feels like good-bye again.
I’ll close my eyes and count to ten.
Will this all be gone by then?

My breath is short, I just might choke.
A heart attack, perhaps a stroke.
We turn around as screams evoke.
We stop and stare, he slits your throat.

A funeral for a friendly foe.
Who’d ever think we’d sink so low.
The painful smiles surely show.
We all know it’s time to go.
