Mommy Hugs

I rush to you, Mommy,
wrapping my arms around you tightly.
I feel warm and happy,
I breathe in your sweet, perfumey smell,
and I hear nothing as I touch your soft freckled skin.
Your tired blue eyes stare lovingly at me;
how could I not love you back?Your hug assures me that
everything will be okay,
nothing can tear this moment apart.
Love holds us tighter than tape or staples,
and your big, wonderful hug comforts me,
helping me narrowly escape my worst fears
as you gently rub my back.
You give me that special Mommy hug.

You give me that special Mommy hug
as you gently rub my back,
helping me narrowly escape my worst fears,
and your big, wonderful hug comforts me.
Love holds us tighter than tape or staples,
nothing can tear this moment apart.
Everything will be okay,
your hug assures me.
How could I not love you back?
Your tired blue eyes staring lovingly at me
and I hear nothing as I touch your soft freckled skin,
I breathe in your sweet, perfumey smell;
I feel warm and happy.
Wrapping my arms around you tightly,
I rush to you, Mommy.

  2. Hi, I'm Gina, I couldn't come to CWP this year but I went for the past two years. Anyway, just wanted to say that I really like this poem, and I admire it so much because these are not easy to write well. I've read (almost) all the posts from this blog and I have enjoyed a lot of your other pieces as well. Good luck! :)
